Trust is the whole point of our work. This page explains, in plain language, how we treat the information people give us when they take part in our research. No fine print, no jargon.

01 · Taking part is your choiceConsent comes first.
Before anyone takes part in our research, we explain who we are, what we are asking, and why. Taking part is always voluntary. You can ask questions, skip anything you do not want to answer, and stop at any time, for any reason, with no consequence to you.
Nothing is recorded without your clear permission.
02 · What we collectOnly what serves the research.
The information we gather depends on the study, but it is always limited to what is needed. It may include:
- Your answers to interview or survey questions about your experiences and needs.
- General, non-identifying details (for example, age range, community, or household situation) that help us understand patterns.
- With explicit permission, audio recordings or photographs used for the research.
We do not collect information we do not need, and we never require more than you are willing to share.
03 · How we use itTo carry your voice forward.
We use what you share to understand the realities communities face and to inform the policies, programs, and decisions that affect them. Findings are usually reported in aggregate, combined with other people's input, so the picture reflects a community, not a single identifiable person.
04 · Who can see itKept confidential.
Access to raw responses is limited to the EchoVoices research team and trusted partners bound by the same standards of confidentiality. When we share results with policymakers, organizations, or the public, we share insights and aggregated findings, not the details that could identify you.
We never sell your information, and we never use it against you or your community.
05 · How we protect itHeld securely.
Information is stored securely and handled with care. Where possible, identifying details are separated from responses or removed, so that what remains cannot easily be traced back to an individual. We limit who can access data and for how long.
06 · How long we keep itNo longer than needed.
We keep information only as long as it is needed for the research it was collected for, and then dispose of it responsibly. Aggregated, non-identifying findings may be retained to support learning and accountability over time.
07 · Your rightsYou stay in control.
You can, at any time:
- Ask what information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or remove your information.
- Withdraw your participation.
- Ask a question about how your information is handled.
